We ate here last weekend and thought the food was really great. It was crowded but we were seated immediately and our food came out quickly. The service just could have been a little friendlier. They weren't rude by any means, just seemed maybe overwhelmed. We started with the fried avocados and they were fantastic. Then I had the lobster roll. It was good, but I've definitely had better. It was a ton of lobster though! My boyfriend had the bison chili and really liked it. Will definitely give this place another shot when we are back in town.
Great service here! I was a little concerned by the menu, pricey, hipster gourmet burgers are a quick path to a bad review from me. Much to my surprise and delight, the burgers were outstanding (though I asked for medium rare and got a very well done burger, as did my girlfriend)... but a bit greasy. They toasted the buns and threw in butter to boot. Bleh! But my green chile bison burger was delightfully spicy without being a case of heartburn, the four cheese macaroni was pretty decent (was nice to taste the smoked cheese in there), and the bison chili Colorado was a winner. Total bill was extremely reasonable even after my girlfriend had a couple of drinks AND them adding a 20% service charge (essentially a mandatory tip). Nice to be surprised like this. Appaloosa can get the fifth star by toning the grease levels on the burger down a bit, and making sure that if a customer asks for medium rare they actually get medium rare. J.Ja
Passing though Denver, and staying downtown, I chose to walk around 16th Street and look for a place to eat. Appaloosa Grill looked good from the outside, so I gave it shot. Somewhat cramped inside, but the service and food made up for the difference. I originally wanted to sit at a booth, but the maitre d said not booths were available, despite me looking around and seeing half a dozen empty booths. Oh well. They sat me at the bar where I found the bartender a joy to talk with. He was previously employed as a death metal singer, but was the absolute nicest bartender I've ever met. I ordered the Tempura Avocado Chicken Sandwich with a side of Green Chili and devoured them both. Swigged it back with a local brew they had on tap and considered it a good night out. This place is worth a shot!
I went there after arriving in Denver late at night around 11:30 pm. Uber driver recommended it. The security guard (aka ID Checker) was vey nice and checked on me while I was inside and gave me a rundown of the bands that perform this week. My server was nice and the food came out relatively in about 10 mins which was ideal bc I was tired. I ordered the Bison burger which the server said is their staple. It was juicy and flavorful. I wanted it medium and it came out slightly over cooked but it was midnight and it was still good. They had a live band which I didn't watch but sounded good. The Nuggets had just beat the Lakers and this place was busy for a Monday night. Good vibe I would come back.
Good sized happy hour menu with some creative and elevated bar food options. Good beer menu and other drinks too. Food was more like a three star but service was great, easy to get to off the 16th street mall and worth another shot so will give it a 4/5.
This area doesn't offer a lot of late night eats. We were staying nearby at the Brown Palace, where everything was closed, and we found Appaloosa. We were warmly welcomed by the host, who directed us to the left side of the restaurant if we wanted to talk, or the right side with live music if we wanted to party. Gotta love options! I ordered the green salad with seared ahi tuna, a small bison green chili Colorado, and a lemon drop martini. My husband ordered the green chili bison burger. We really enjoyed our food! Everything was fresh and tasty. Our server first brought my salad without the tuna, and it took us a while to get her attention to send it back. That took a long time, too. I didn't order a second drink because no one came back after that, and we waited for what seemed like an eternity to get our check. I believe the restaurant was closing, but every time we tried to wave down any server at all, they looked away. I'm glad this place was open and the food was delicious, but service just wasn't great.
What an amazing spot downtown to grab dinner or drinks any day of the week. They have live music EVERY NIGHT! You can't go wrong with any of the food here. Most dishes are meat focused but there are also several vegetarian options! The service is great as well. You can sit at the bar for full service or grab a table.
I finally got around to writing this review and even now I am dreaming of coming back here! I made a dinner reservation for 9pm on a Monday with my partner as we heard they have live music at night. This was easily one of our favorite dinner spots during our visit to Denver. Many of their dishes seemed interesting and so we got a few to try out. Drinks are not pictured as I got so excited I had forgotten. Bison Bone Marrow 5/5 - this was absolutely delicious and I ended up ordering it twice! The tomatoes were soft and sweet and nicely roasted but the star here really is the bone marrow. I could've easily eaten a bowl of it. I wish the bread had been softer and warmer but I think that type of bread is usually served crunchier so I still enjoyed it. Flat Top Elk Burger 5/5 - this was only my second time having elk and it was delicious. I don't know what the standard for it is but I think this place does it exceptionally well. The jam they smeared on it was exciting too and gave the meat a nice sweetness to the meat! Wild Mushroom Pappardelle 5/5 - I really enjoy mushroom pastas and this was an easy 5/5 rating for me. I think the choice of pasta noodles were smart as well and made the dish look very pretty. If I could come back, this would be something else I'd order again on top of the bone marrow. Not pictured but their drinks were delicious and shoutout to my server (I wish I got her name) who was very kind and patient as my partner and I had so many questions about the menu. She was very energetic and had such positive energy I think it really just added to the exciting atmosphere of the restaurant. Aside from their food, the musicians we saw that night were amazing. I loved the funky jazz music they performed. If you're visiting Denver and looking for a casual dinner spot with great food and music, this is it!
